Te devuelvo la mirada (I Return Your Gaze), 2022- video work in progress

Te devuelvo la mirada is a video work in progress. Started during a research trip in Argentina in 2022, this work arises from the attempt to connect with the passing of some family members who used to live in the country side amongts animals before their migration towards urban areas. Horses, for me, carry the memory of these people. A culture, a place, a land that carries our roots, the knowledge of ourselves, myself. Rehearsing ways to approach some horses in the area of Catamarca, Argentina, is a conversation about nostalgia, loss, diasporic experiences, past, present and future. A naive attempts to establish a bond with the horses symbolizes the search for the telling of a story - which story. The action resides in a body that unfolds towards another body that is as unfamiliar as it is familiar. How is this new identity landscape shaped between the inherited and the acquired?
